As part of our BAL grant’s final celebration in week 7 will be sharing some Asian games at Poonindie, I explored the web to find out some information. There are some great websites available and I am putting some links here:
eHow.com has some great information and ideas for Asian games from several Asian countries. It is a site for parents and teachers and has links to other useful resources.
About.com is another site that has some interesting Chinese games and printable information. There is also a link called ‘Intro to China’ which has general information about China.
Learning for kids has Asian game information, as well as online learning activities for multiyear levels. This Asian word a rama asks players to read the definition and click on the correct answer. It could be used to intoduce the topic, to see what students already know.
This site has information for both teachers and students about traditional children’s games in South East Asia. There are animated games, puzzles and short films about different Soth East Asian games. It is well presented and easy to use.
Asia has printable lessons for teachers, ranging from lessons for individual countries, to lesson about “where is Asia?” and other relevant Asian topics. The site contains links for both teachers and students, in addition to free resources like clipart, video clips, online games, ready made powerpoint presentations and maps.
There are plenty of other sites I visited today, some better than others. If you can’t find what you are looking for on these links, try googling ‘Asian games for kids’ – you will be pleased with the results.
I have downloaded the interactive CD from the UNESCO site, it has flash files that you can watch to see how a game is played and there is also a PDF file for each one explaining how game is played. I can burn it onto a CD for both schools if you want.
Hi Janice, thanks that would be really helpful!
Week 7 is rapidly approaching.
