This term the 4/5 class voted to do a topic exploring the Indonesian environment. This followed on from the “Investigating our local area” unit we had done in term 3.
In small groups, we used the ipads to explore Indonesia,using some of the free travel apps like iparadise and triposo.
Our first task was to put on the physical features we may find on an Indonesian island. We were asked to include a compass and “legenda”. We used the apps to brainstorm the vocabulary we would need to label the features of our island.
Our next task was to decide which of the Indonesian flora and fauna would be found on our island. We used the apps “Belajar mengenal binatang” and “Animals 101” to work out which fauna/flora we would include and their Indonesian names.
In our next lesson, we added a scale and the man made and places of interest we wanted on our island, once again referring to the Indonesian apps that depicted tourism objects and other information about Indonesia.
Lastly, we had to create a postcard/advertisement that would encourage visitors to come our our island. We used Lifecards to create postcards with text about what our island has/ doesn’t have eg Di Pulau Momodo tidak ada buaya tetapi ada komodo.
Time permitting, we will also create a short film advertising our “newly discovered” island using one of the movie making apps.
