Our 4-5 and 6-7 classes at Wangary have been revising some basic questions and using 12 expressions from one of the Indonesian language apps to create skits and short texts.
This week we experimented with two comic maker apps and used Indonesian magazines like “Gadis” and “Cita cinta” from Jakarta for comic pictures. Pairs were given a rubrik which explained what had to be included in their texts. They were asked to use the magazines to find relevant pictures for the questions and phrases we had been practising.
The 6-7 class trialled Comicbook. We found it very simple to use and the saving option was great, unfortunately, to save to the camera roll (so that pictures could be printed or used else where) we had to take a screen shot of our pages. They still looked really professional and students enjoyed testing out all the different effects the magazine pictures could be given.
In the 4-5 class we used Comic creator. This app has less snazzy options than Comic book, but this meant less experimenting with changing effects and more time focussing on text. This app allows saving to the camera roll, but we found that we couldn’t get back into files to edit in our second lesson…not sure if this is because we have a free or older version.. The final product looks as good as the Comic book texts, but students wanted more options like stickers and a file save option.
This is a 6-7 Comicbook example using some of the expressions and questions. All the photographs came from Gadis magazines and Cita Cinta.
